2 arrested over gang-rape of mother, daughter in Sherpur
The woman along with her daughter, who is 16 years old were raped in the Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur earlier today.
Bashir Ahmed, the officer in charge of Nalitabari Police Station, said that the mother filed a report at the police station today at noon, accusing eight persons in connection with this.
Two accused were detained by police, Abdus Sattar (45) and Sadek Mia (30) following an operation, according to the OC and added that the drive to find the other suspect are ongoing.
In the court statements, OC Bashir Ahmed said the mother, who is 40 years old, along with her daughter went to Nalitabari just a few days ago.
They left their house on a battery-powered auto-rickshaw with the intention of going to Sherpur town at noon yesterday, however, Omar Ali (40), also a driver of the same vehicle , drove them to the residence of Osman Ali (42). Osman Ali (42).
Then, Omar Ali called around six people, which included Sattar, Sadek, Jahangir Alam (40), Tara Mia (32), Mofiz Uddin (30) along with Ahmed Ali and they raped the woman and her daughter, each time according to the OC stated, quoting the report.
The accused had left the victims in an unidentified location after warning the victims with severe consequences if they divulge the incident.
A team of police rescued those who were injured after the victim dialled 999 for assistance The OC reported.
In the meantime, Nahid Hasan Chowdhury, the superintendent of Sherpur police, as well as Afroza Nazneen Afroza Nazneen, deputy superintendent of police (Nalitabari Circle) visited the site and spoke to the victims.
